We'll be missing the family moving to Austria.
Roger's friend Ryan is moving the whole family to Austria next week. They are planning to be away for approximately 3 years. I know that Ryan has been checking the blog, so I thought I'd throw out a shout out to him in Vienna. Here's the name of the place he'll be working at:

7 Months today....
Malcolm is 7 months old today, hurray! He's really grown the last little while; he doesn't even sleep swaddled up anymore. He sleeps on his side, his back, even his stomach. That's very funny to Roger and Tracey because he hates tummy time so much.

I'm fine too. Now that we're getting more good weather I've been treated to more walks than usual. We've even gone to the beach and the ballpark and it's only the first week of June. Paws crossed that it's going to be a good summer. I've heard rumours that I might even be going for my first professional haircut soon. Do you think I need it?

Further developments....
Here are Malcolm's two new teeth. He wasn't very happy when Roger took this picture, but you can clearly see his new chompers. I don't think the teething is bothering him lately, which has been lucky.

Yay, my nose if black again. Good thing for the sunshine and the Vitamin D! I love the good weather.

Malcolm is happy in the jolly jumper. He loves jumping in that thing.

I have to get my license today.
We received a license renewal notice in the mail yesterday. So Roger and Tracey will be heading to the Vancouver SPCA to renew my tags.
On the Malcolm front there was a significant development last night... he only woke up one time, whoo hoo! I hope that's a trend that will continue and improve. He also played in his crib for about half an hour by himself. We love it when he can entertain himself. It gives the rest of the family a chance to get some more sleep, including me!
Roger, Tracey and Malcolm had lunch with the family last week. In fact, they met with cousin George and cousin Sandra from Scotland. Tracey said that Malcolm was very well-behaved during lunch. He was extremely happy and didn't fuss at all. Here's a photoshopped pic from the lunch (you can see in the picture that Malcolm is sprouting his first two teeth):

sleep a hard thing to come by....
Despite some recent successes, Malcolm has still had trouble sleeping uninterrupted stretches overnight. This past week Roger and Tracey were able to eliminate the need to administer the middle of the night feeding and the need to swaddle Malcolm; two things that they thought they could never eliminate. Malcolm is now sleeping from about 8:30pm all the way to 3:00 or 4:00am before waking. However, for whatever reason he's now been waking up at 5:00 or 6:00am and wanting to start his day. It's especially tiring for Roger and Tracey since they would like to sleep at least until 7am. I on the other hand can sleep all day.
We had Ally, Jayme and their mom and dad over for dinner yesterday; a Korean feast it was. Here is a picture of the kids together; hope I spelled their names right! Makes me wonder how much my life is going to change once Malcolm is crawling. Yikes! :

With spring comes the good weather.
The weather in Vancouver has been so beautiful lately. We were out for a family walk to English Bay yesterday evening. I don't know how long the sunny weather is going to last, but we'll have to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, it also means that I get dirty more often and we all know what that means, more baths. Roger gave me a bath tonight in fact. He said that I turned the tub water grey, what ever that means. I don't see colors very well so I'm guessing that means I was quite dirty. I guess I do notice it on my paws, they look very white again. Here are some more pics, including my apres bath picture.

Malcolm looks a bit funny in this pic, but very happy nonetheless.

Happy Mother's Day.
It's been a pretty busy weekend. Last night Tracey hosted a dinner to celebrate uncle Glen and cousin Joseph's birthdays. She made enough spagehetti to last the whole week. I got to have a taste when someone dropped some on the floor, it was delicious. Also, last night Roger and the boys went out for for their last BNO before Ryan's departure to Vienna. He'll be leaving in a few weeks then coming back for the rest of the family in June. It was quite a dinner... the boys feasted on steaks at the famous Morton's steak house. Roger said that there was a 48oz porterhouse that was $114 just for the entree and that's without any sides! Oh, Malcolm wanted me to mention a special Happy Mother's day to both his Mom and Grandma today. He's is always very appreciative of how much love and care he receives. Here are some pictures from the week:
Look at my magic fingers they're invisible!
A visit to Gomo Halmoni's house.
Always happy in the Baby Bjorn carrier.
Here's Malcolm grabbing cousin Nicole's nose.

Mmmmm.... key lime pie.

Jolly Jumper
Malcolm is getting his first tooth, Roger has been trying to get a
picture of it, but it's very illusive. Accompanying the teething is a
bit of crankiness. In fact, I think Malcolm has been waking up more
throughout the night if you can believe it. Poor Roger and Tracey, will
they ever get a good night's sleep? Here is something that always seems
to keep Malcolm happy (Tracey is opposed to the music, so the next version will be sans music):

6 Month Stats for Malcolm
Weight: 8020g = 17.6lbs
Length: 68cm = 26.7in
Head: 45cm = 17.71
The shot wasn't too bad, Tracey and Roger thought it was a good sign that Dr. Lin gave Malcolm a Snoopy band aid. He cried for about three seconds and calmed down immediately. Too bad he has one more next week. Dr. Lin said that Malcolm's legs are very strong and not to be surprised if he walks early. Here's the CDC growth chart for Malcolm (Basically he's totally normal with respect to weight and length... but he does have a bit of a large melon):

6 Months....

I can't believe that Tracey has been home for 6 months now. Where has the time gone? Her maternity leave is half over now, wowee (shh... she doesn't like to think or talk about it, cause it's stress inducing) And don't even bother to mention the day care issue. It's been so busy the past few weekends, just to review these are some of the events:
Leah and Travis nuptials
Canucks playoff game
Ryan's surprise party
Grandma at the hospital
I hope grandma feels better soon. I wish I could do something to help her, but hopefully the doctor will have some good news and perhaps suggest something that will make her feel better. It's going to be a tough day tomorrow. Malcolm doesn't know it yet, but he's going in for his six month shots tomorrow. I know he'll be a trooper.

Safe and sound.
After waiting for 3.5 hours at the passport office in Richmond, Roger made it out safe and sound. Can you believe that the first person in line started lining up at 1:30 in the morning? That's crazy. I mean Roger got there at 6am and managed to get out at 9:30am. That's not too bad considering how many people were actually in the line. So even though it was cold and wet, because of Roger's perseverance..... in about six weeks Roger and Malcolm's passport should arrive and they'll be able to travel across the border.
On a sad note, the Canucks lost in double overtime despite the efforts of Roberto Luongo. It was a nice playoff run albeit short. After all, most people didn't think the Canucks would make it to the playoffs let alone to the second round. We have high hopes for next year! At least they finished above the Leafs and Flames.

Passport office visit for Roger.
Roger had to wake up very early this morning to go to the passport office in Richmond. He woke up at 4:45 and left the house at around 5:30am to line up to renew his passport and to apply for Malcolm's. The lines have been quite crazy in Vancouver since the American government instituted a new policy that all Canadian travellers now require a passport to cross the border. Roger hasn't come back yet, but hopefully he won't have to wait too long at the office. In the meantime here are some new pictures of Malcolm, he's becoming such a big boy now:

Playoff beards?
Now I don't really understand the reasoning behind the playoff beards, but Roger told me it has to do with superstition. He's been growing one (the best he can) since the beginning of the Stanley Cup playoffs for both the Canucks and his own team the Siege. I guess it's been working so far, here's a picture of it:
If growing a extra hair is lucky, I must be the luckiest dog around.

Lots of hockey in Vancouver these days...
The Canucks beat the Anaheim Ducks to tie the series. Roger and Tracey got tickets for the game through a friend of theirs that works at Orca Bay. They were thinking of bringing Malcolm, but weren't able to find any ear protection that would work. So they'll be leaving both of us with Uncle Glen and Auntie Manjit on Sunday.
Also, Roger had his division final playoff game last night and won. They beat the first place team 5-1. Now they'll get to go to the regional final next week playing teams from Edmonton, North Shore, Chilliwack and Langley. He's a bit bruised after last nights game, here's a picture of a bruise developing from a blocked shot (kinda looks like a purple Pac-Man).... you can even see the imprint of the puck. As of today it started to turn purple. Tracey mentioned that it's too bad Roger loves hockey so much cause sometimes it causes some significant injury. In the last three years Roger has had seven stitches in his mouth and chin, double root canal and several bumps and bruises... too many to mention. Oh did I mention that I think Roger's crazy playoff beard is working!
I've also been teaching Malcolm how to type. Here's a sample: z v,,. f; m;efdmv., m. Here's a picture of Roger holding Malcolm at the keyboard.

Curious boy....
Malcolm has been a lot more curious about objects and items these days. Now that his motor skills are developing he's able to grab and touch objects much more easily. Combined with the onset of teething, he's starting to bring all objects he can grab up to his mouth. Too bad he doesn't have any concept of size yet. Here's a picture of him reaching for a big water bottle. Grandma and Grandpa had a chuckle over all his funny antics.

Spring is finally here.
Spring has finally sprung in Vancouver. The weather has been noticeably warmer and all the blossoms are in full bloom. Here are some pictures of the Magnolia trees and daffodils around our neighborhood. By the way, congratulations to the Vancouver Canucks in capturing the Northwest division title, whoo hoo... playoffs here we come. Happy Easter everyone.

5 Months Old...

Well Malcolm is now 5 months old. These are some of the changes and developmental strides he's made:
He rolls from his tummy to his back
Stationary objects are now much clearer but he still prefers strong contrasts, sharp edges and bright colors. He especially likes looking at Roger's t-shirts.
He can stand and with some assistance remain there for some time.
He can sit momentarily, but he tends to still tip over, darn heavy head!
He can grab his feet.
He's discovered his hands and fingers.
He smiles and giggles.
His hands are open and he reaches out to touch and grasp.
He can hold and bring an object to his mouth.
He's now up for 7-8 hours throughout the day.
He's become much more vocal, mainly grunts, squeals, coos, and other Chewbaca like sounds.
Some tell tale signs of attachment, recognizing who Mommy and Daddy are and even perhaps shows discomfort when he sees an unfamilar face.

Malcolm speaks!
Roger's been having some issues exporting video to the Mac, but he managed to put together this short clip. I know that Malcolm probably doesn't know what he's saying, but nevertheless we're counting it as one of his first words.
