Thanksgiving and all that.

As you may already know I like to comment on the weather, in fact many of my blog posts comment on the weather conditions here in Vancouver. With the onset of Autumn it has been turning chilly; although we've had some sunny days the warm weather is for sure only a memory now. As the colder temperatures set in there have been some developments afoot.

Last night Tracey gave Malcolm a blanket to sleep with to get him used to the idea. They are also considering giving him a pillow too. The transition to the big boy bed is on the horizon. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanksgiving dinner went off splendidly with turkey and all the fixings. A good time was had by all. Here are some more pictures from the past week or so.

Malcolm is 23 months old...

Malcolm is now 23 months old. Some things we've come to learn while watching Malcolm develop.

• He's got a remarkable memory.
• He knows so many words, we've lost count.
• Eating is still a struggle, unless it's ice cream, bun, cake, or oranges.
• Thomas the Tank Engine is known as "Bobby" in our house.
  
• Veggies are for suckers.
• The more bread products there are the better.
  
• He's learning stuff everyday.
• Long car rides are for the birds.
  
• Poo poos are tough.
• He's a very lucky boy to live in a house full of family members that love him so much.

Malcolm hasn't been feeling well the past few days, but luckily whatever he had has now passed. I think it was a stomach bug, but we're not really sure. His eating habits have sure been less than desirable these days. I wish I would get some of the things that are offered to him. Some of the main staples like rice and toast have been met with strong opposition. Roger and Tracey try to feed Malcolm the best things, whole grains, organics, fruits and veggies, too bad the little sucker doesn't want to cooperate. Slides and kites....

Malcolm and the family took a little break from visiting all the trains and decided to try something different. We went to a different playground and even headed all the way out to Richmond to meet up with the cousins. Here are some pictures from the past weekend.

After a few unsuccessful tries Malcolm is finally beginning to master the slide. Tracey and Roger have been trying to get Malcolm to try some advanced climbing at the playground. He really loves the slide.
This is Joseph's new kite, it's a Pirate Ship. It took some time to assemble as the instructions were left behind, but Roger and Glen persevered to get it together and up in the air in no time. Here's Nicole and Joseph taking it on it's first flight.

Good weather to kick off the first weekend in September.

Roger has always hoped that Malcolm and I become good buddies. I guess he always wanted Malcolm to grow up having a good dog by his side (mainly cause he didn't grow up with a dog, even though he really wanted one). I'd have to say that the relationship is that of mutual understanding. We do get asked that quite often, "How does Obi get along with Malcolm" and for the most part Tracey and Roger both say "they both keep out of each-other's way." To be very honest I didn't know what it meant to have a baby brother, I've never had one before. In fact, in the beginning when Malcolm first came home from the hospital he would cry in the middle of the night, and I really didn't know what to think of it. I would run to his crib and cry along side him (Roger and Tracey thought it was cute). Now as Malcolm grows up things are changing, he's become more interactive and has even started verbally communicating. Today for the first time he told me to "Sit" and gave me a treat. I think as he gets older and starts to understand more, we will be good friends and it's not just about keeping out of each-other's way. We're all a part of one happy family here, I love Malcolm and I've begun to understand that he loves me too (Have I mentioned that he's even started tickling me on my tummy?). We're back from Whistler.

It was four cold and rainy days at future site of the 2010 Winter Olympics I tell you. Although we were lucky to have been able to reschedule our vacation to Whistler the weather sure didn't cooperate. We were hoping for some warm and sunny weather, oh well. There was a rather exciting moment though, I MET MY HALF SISTER! Can you believe it, we ran into a dog that looked very similar to me and low and behold she was also a Havanese. After some further discussion, we found out that she was also born in Victoria, to the same Dam (Mother). Here are some pictures from the past week.

In other news, Malcolm's mural is finally finished, here's a picture Roger took last week during its progress.
Over 20 hours invested and this is the final product. Some finishing touches left, but pretty much done. It was a labour of love and hopefully Malcolm will enjoy it for many years to come.

The family has been having a great summer so far, although I've heard Tracey complaining that it's going too fast (as usual). August has brought heatwaves and rainstorms and even some sunshine. One of Malcolm' s favourite things this summer has been playing with his water table and the garden hose. He really loves water and doesn't even care if it's cold. Sometimes I enjoy a drink from the water table myself; he always encourages me to have "more". Here are a couple of pictures of Malcolm wielding the hose.

The family recently spent the day at the PNE. I didn't get to go even though I do consider myself a "super dog". Malcolm especially loved the giant slide. He went on it four times. Melan wasn't so sure about the slide, especially when she almost lost her favourite hat!







Next thing on the family's agenda is a getaway to Whistler. Even Malcolm's favourite cousins are going to be there. Paws crossed that there are no road problems this time and that Malcolm enjoys the long drive. I hope I get to stick my head out the window!

Visit to the Burnaby Miniature Railway.

Malcolm is very much interested in trains these days. He often sits in the car looking at his Thomas the Tank book for quite long stretches of time. He also loves when the skytrain passes by and repeatedly asks for "More." The trip to the Burnaby Central Railway was a treat. Although you may not tell from the pictures, he was seriously frozen with excitement. Here are some pics from the past weekend.

BC Day long weekend.

It was a busy long weekend for the family. There were trips to Science World, rides on the Skytrain, a dip in the Toddler Pool, all topped off by a trip to the beach. Malcolm seems to have outgrown his aversion to the sand, cause as we all remember Hawaii was no walk in the park. A lot of fun things happened this past weekend despite our cancellation of the Whistler trip (crazy freak rockslide). Instead, we'll be heading to Whistler at the end of the month. Here are some pictures from this past week.
