Malcolm's Photography

Roger has always tried to pass on the gift of photography to the kids and at times they seem interested and other times not so much. Malcolm has shot several rolls of film so far and recently shot a roll of Kodak Tri-X black and white film. He's got a little Konica point and shoot zoom. Here are some of his shots. As you may expect, his sister is the main subject most of the time. 20160108-untitled-23.jpg 20160108-untitled-27.jpg 20160108-untitled-29.jpg 20160108-untitled-32.jpg 20160108-untitled-33.jpg

Malcolm's Birthday

Malcolm's birthday was a hit, on thursday the family went out to White Spot to celebrate. It was grandma, Roger, Tracey, Carol, Grandpa Harry and Annis for dinner. He got to enjoy his favourite mac and cheese. On Saturday, we had a small party with a number of his friends and classmates at the house. Tracey and Roger had put together a movie theme for his party, with four kinds of popcorn, candy and lot of kid favourites to satisfy the group. Best of all his best friend from school was able to join. Here are some pictures of Malcolm's birthday. untitled-1.jpg untitled-2.jpg untitled-6.jpg untitled-9.jpg untitled-8.jpg untitled-11.jpg untitled-12.jpg untitled-13.jpg untitled-17.jpg untitled-16.jpg untitled-23.jpg untitled-33.jpg

Catching up.

Sports Day was a big success. Last year Malcolm missed Sports Day because of the Teacher's Strike. This year's theme was minute to win it, with various events focussing on small, but difficult tasks. I believe Red Team won this year. As you can see from the pictures Malcolm was Team Green and Melody was Team Yellow. Fun was had by all. untitled-11.jpg untitled-12.jpg untitled-10.jpg untitled-6.jpg untitled-2.jpg untitled-1.jpg The end of the baseball season was a good one for Malcolm. The decision to let him play another year of Rookies was a good one. He's improved his attitude, throwing and catching. Next year will be interesting to see if he can keep up to the other kids. I suspect he'll be fine, especially with some additional reinforcement over the summer, fall, and winter.

Happy Birthday Malcolm.

Yes, Malcolm turned 8 last week. We commemorated the event by going out to dinner with the family to his favourite restaurant, White Spot. For his friends, we had the party at Crash Crawleys. As evidenced by the smiles, laughter and sweat the kids had a great time at the party. Here's a little slideshow that Roger put together. Happy Birthday Malcolm... we love you.

Malcolm's summer.

Malcolm has had quite a summer. It has been the summer of milestones. At the top of the list has been his development in swimming skills. He's now able to dunk his head and submerge underwater. From his current lessons, he's able to push off the wall both on his back and face-down to be able to swim for a distance. It's hard to believe that this is the same kid that freaked out when he got water in his eyes from the bath, leaps and bounds I tell you. Also for the first time since he's eaten solid food, he ate a regular hamburger. Mind you he started off with one of the very best (in Roger's opinion), the In and Out in San Diego. Now as long as there's only ketchup on the burger, he'll eat one. Lastly, he's been able to pump on the swings. This is a huge relief to Roger since he doesn't have to push him on the swings any longer. Despite the few behavioural meltdowns, Malcolm has had a great summer. He's certainly learning a lot of new things and having a lot of new experiences. He started a long laundry list of things to do over the summer and with only two weeks left, there are still a number of items still to be checked off. Hopefully, the family will be able to knock a few of them down before the start of school. The boy is starting the 2nd grade, wow how time flies. DSC_0775 - 2013-08-14 at 10-58-36

Student led conference for Grade 1.

Tracey and Roger attended Malcolm's first student-led conference this past Friday. They got to see first hand what's he's learning in school. Malcolm showed them both how he's reading, writing journal entries, performing science experiments and he even showed us some math skills. They were really proud of his achievement with respect to his reading, he's has really come a long way compared to the beginning of the year. He's able to read many of the books by himself. Certainly his sight word recognition has improved. Reading his journal entries, his drawing, sentence structure and even spelling have gotten so much better. Here are some pictures from the conference on Friday. We're all very proud of you Malcolm. Special thanks to your teacher Mrs. M, she's doing a great job.

Happy Birthday Malcolm .

Our boy turned 6 years old on Monday. Time sure does go by fast. It doesn't seem that long ago he was in diapers. He's now a first grader and well on his way. From what I've witnessed he sure is a special boy. Things that I noticed from the very start are still very apparent today. He's got an impeccable memory. He really does love to laugh. He likes new experiences and travelling. Also, deep down inside he does really likes to take it all in and savour traditions, he's a lot like his mom that way. Anyway, happy birthday to our boy, you sure have come a long way. We all love you lots. He sure was surprised and happy! Just look at that face.
